Comparison of Zinc Levels between Type 2 Diabetic Patients and Healthy Control in Al-Najaf Population

Abstract

Diabetes is a complex, chronic disease that requires ongoing medical treatment and risk-reduction measures that extend beyond glycemic control. The research enrolled 400 type 2 diabetic patients (220 male and 180 female). Patients ranged in age from 40 to 70 years. In the present case-control study, we inducted T2DM patients along with age and sex matched healthy controls. In T2DM, The BMI of T2DM patients was found slightly higher than healthy controls, however the difference was not significant. This indicates that T2DM patients have low BMI although mostly they are middle aged patients.Zn levels is significantly lower in diabteic pateints than healthy controls P < 0.0001.
