Molecular and Epidemiological Assessment of Hepatitis C Virus and Identification of Its Genotypes in Subjects of Tehsil Daggar District Buner, KP, Pakistan

Abstract

The current study was carried out in DHQ hospital Daggar and some private clinics from December 2016 to May 2017 in Tehsil Dagger District Buner. A total of 1100 subjects were tested in which 508 were males and 592 were females of different age. Total positive cases were 375/1100 the overall incidence rate was 34.1% in different age groups of males and females. All the positive cases in our research were due to Hepatitis C virus. The results show that District Buner is at risk of Hepatitis C especially by Hepatitis C virus. The common sign, symptoms, and clinical investigations in all patients include, fever, fatigue, vomiting, joints pain, jaundice, digestive disorders, bloating, general body aches, heart burn, and pain in the right hypochondrium. We can stop the high rate of prevalence of Hepatitis C virus infection by knowing its types, ways of transmission and different preventing methods that could help us in preventing the infection in this area of KP. Due to Hepatitis C virus infection a total of 375 positive cases in which 211 were females and 164 were males’ positives respectively. This shows that the rate of Hepatitis C virus infections is higher in Tehsil Daggar District Buner. In our research work we analyzed the data with the help of SPSS software. In gender wise analysis show that the prevalence of HCV is high in female as compared to male. Out of 592 females 211were positive so the percentage is 19.2%. Total of 164 male were positive out of 508 and the percentage is 14.9%. In age wise analysis as compare to other groups of both male and female the prevalence of HCV is very high in age group 21 to 30 years of age. Marital status wise analysis show that in positive cases married female have high (15.09%) prevalence of HCV than unmarried female (4.09%).While married male have high (11.54%) rate of prevalence as compare to unmarried male (3.36%). The qualitative PCR positive samples were subjected to genotyping assay out of 375 serum type specific PCR fragments were seen in 212 serum samples whereas 163 samples were found with untypable genotypes (43.46%) as no genotype-specific band was seen in these samples. In conclusion HCV genotype 3a (29.6%) is the most prevalent genotype circulating in Tehsil Daggar District Buner, like other parts of Pakistan.
