Abstract

Pharmacists contribute to better patient outcomes in a variety of medical problems, according to evidence in the literature. In particular, data demonstrating the impact of pharmacist interventions in patients with chronic renal disease was accumulated in five recent systematic reviews (CKD). Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a catch-all name for a variety of illnesses that result in persistent kidney impairment, which can lead to medication complications. It occurs as a complication of diabetes and hypertension in roughly half of all cases, although these modifiable risk factors are only part of the problem. A two-stage technique was used to locate suitable papers for this investigation. In the first stage, we conducted a PubMed search for systematic reviews published before 2020 that established evidence of pharmacists' participation in CKD patients. The search technique combined three elements: (1) the text word "pharmacist*," (2) MeSH terms "renal dialysis" or "renal insufficiency," and (3) the NLM search strategy utilised to build the systematic reviews subset on PubMed. We conclude from the study that, Pharmacists have a role to play in the care of patients with CKD, according to the literature. However, over 60% of the studies were deemed non-implementable because the data given was insufficient to assure that the intervention could be replicated in clinical practice. Anemia management, renal osteodystrophy management, cardiovascular risk factor management, drug appropriateness evaluation and reconciliation, patient education and compliance, and cost containment were highlighted as evidence-based areas of pharmacist interventions in patients with CKD. Journal editors and peer reviewers play a critical role in assuring the implement ability of the treatments reported in published articles, and pharmacy practice research should be undertaken and reported with the goal of enhancing clinical practice.
