Prevalence of Golden Proportion, Recurring Esthetic Dental (RED) Proportion and Preston’s Proportion in Aesthetic Dentition among local population – A cross sectional study.

Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of Golden Proportion, Recurring Esthetic Dental (RED) Proportion and Preston’s Proportion in Aesthetic Dentition among local population.


Materials and Method: A total of 170 participants who fulfilled the criteria for aesthetically pleasing smile were selected for the study between the age group of 18-25 years. Photographs of the subjects were taken using a digital camera and analysed using Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 software for descriptive test.


Results: The golden proportion existed for 1.8% of participants on left side and same for right side and when combined, the golden proportion existed for 1.1% participants in their evaluated smiles. The RED proportion was found in 5.3% participants in their evaluated smiles. The Preston’s proportion existed for 2.4% of participants on left side and 5.3% for right side and when combined, the Preston’s proportion existed for none participants in their evaluated smiles.


Conclusions: The prevalence of the RED proportion when evaluated was more in aesthetically pleasing smile followed by Golden proportion, whereas the Preston’s proportion did not exist in the participants with aesthetically pleasing smile.
