Solubility Enhancement of Ibuprofen Through Matrix Based Hydrogel System
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ibuprofen hydrogel formulation was prepared by cross-linking method. Different formulations were prepared by incorporating drug and polymers such as Carbopol, Guar gum, HPMC at different ratios followed by addition of 10 ml solution of CaCl2 (2%, 5%, and 7% solutions) and NaOH (0.1N solution). Preformulation studies were carried out for drug and polymers. The hydrogel formulation was examined for their In-Vitro characteristics including percentage yield, weight percentage, pH, skin irritation, viscosity and spreadability. The percentage yield of hydrogel formulation between 55.57-87.31% and HF-5 the maximum percentage yield. The weight percentage of the hydrogel was in the range of 32.197 – 74.575 gm and HF- 4 the maximum weight. The pH of all developed hydrogels was in the range of 2.98 ± 0.1-0.3 to 9.40 ± 0.1-0.3, and tested formulation did not develop any skin irritation. The spreadability of hydrogel was found in 1.1 - 6.8 dispersion 2gm.cm/min the maximum spreadability was found in HF-2 and the minimum spreadability was found in HF-5. The drug release profile was calculated in the buffer 7.4pH, 0.1N HCl for 4 hours by the dialysis membrane method. The drug dispersion in water and percentage of drug release was found 8 % in HCl solution and 18 % in 7.4pH buffer solution and after preparation of hydrogel formulations the drug percentage release was found to be 32% in 7.4 pH buffer and 18 % in 1.2 pH HCl solutions. The percentage drug release of hydrogel formulation was determined by the various kinetics model (Such as Zero order, First order, Higuchi model, Hopfenberg model etc.) in the different medium. The calculated model was showing the best fitted model of the formulation and maximum formulation was show the Makoid-Banakar model. Thus, it was concluded, the hydrogel formulation enhanced the solubility of Ibuprofen. The drug release percentage is increased after formulation of hydrogel.
