Abstract

Continous administration and having low bioavailability after oral administration of conventional dosage forms can be overcome by  IPN( Interpretrating Polymer Network) microspheres formulation. Propranolol Hydrochloride is nonselective beta blocking anti-hypertensive drug and utilize for angina pectoris, myocardial infraction, migraine prophylaxis, glaucoma. The aim of the present work was to Optimization of Semi-IPN of Gum Katira for modified release of Propranolol. Propranolol hydrochloride IPN were loaded using combination of Polyvinylalcohol & Gum Katira by Emulsion Crosslinking technique using Glutraldehyde as a crosslinking agent.

Eight formulations (F1-F8) were prepared using different polymers ratio. Depend on drug polymers ratio, the percentage yield were found to be in range between 88.45% to 93.10%. and entrapment efficiency were 82.41% to 99.98%respectively.In-vitro drug release studies carried out at different media water ,0.1N HCL and Phosphate buffer pH for a period of 8 hours. All formulations shown extended release characteristics and Propranolol HCl is capable of being microencapsulated as a IPN formulation with suitable properties and release profile.
