The effect of training program about PDCA process of quality on head nurses knowledge regarding patient safety goals

Abstract

Background: Patient and client safety is a critical component of healthcare quality. Nurses play a vital role in maintaining and promoting patient/ client safety due to the nature of their work. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of training program regarding the use of PDCA process of quality on head nurses ' knowledge about patient safety goals. Materials and Methods: A: Quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct the present study, in all inpatient units at Zagazig University Hospitals. The sample include all head nurses (n=30) working in the above mentioned setting.  Knowledge questionnaire sheet was used for data collection. Results: None of the head nurses had a satisfactory level of knowledge before the program implementation, while all head nurses (100%) had a satisfactory level after the program implementation. It is recommended that the continuous training program and development activities about the international patient safety goals should be applied to all head in the study setting and should be extended to other similar settings
