The Impact of Badoush Cements Factory Pollutant on the Health of Workers in It
Main Article Content
Abstract
The current study included identifying the effect of pollutants originating in Badoush cement factory on the health of the people working in it, according to work sites and years of service, as blood samples were collected from workers in contact with these pollutants and divided into three groups: administrators, technicians and temporary (daily wages) and according to years of work to less And more than 10 years of service, and some blood and biochemical parameters were performed for them, which included (blood pressure, hemoglobin concentration, packed cells volume , total protein concentration, cholesterol and the activities of the enzymes aminotransferases ), in addition to measuring the concentrations of some enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants and these were compared Results with a group of normal, healthy, and non-smoking subjects as a control group.
The results of this study showed that the values and concentrations of these above variables showed clear differences according to the sites and years of work, as it showed a decrease in the concentration of both hemoglopin and packed cell volume and an increase in the number of platelets count reached (13.06 ± 6.29), (39.0 ± 2.65) and (275.3 ± 20.12), respectively, in the blood of the time workers compared with the control group (15.03 ± 13.8), (43.3 ± 1.50) and (225.6 ± 5.14), while the total protein concentration showed a decrease in all the studied groups, reaching (6.50 ± 0.58 ) and (7.45 ± 0.70) and (7.64 ± 0.20), respectively, in the serum of the temporary, technical and administrative workers group compared with the control group (7.70 ± 0.67). As for the cholesterol concentration, it showed an increase of (186.6 ± 19.6) and (170.5 ± 20.80) and (164.3 ± 21.51) respectively in these groups compared with the control group (159.6 ± 21.6), while liver enzymes showed an increase in their effectiveness as the increase in the activity of AST enzyme reached (13.66 ± 1.1), (13.3 ± 5.8) and (12.23 ± 0.36) in serum for workers working less than 10 years compared to workers working for more than 10 years, as the increase reached (14.56 ± 0.32), (13.83 ± 0.46) and (12. 83 ± 0.78) compared with the control group (11.91 ± 1.19), while the increase in AIT enzyme activity in the temporary, technical and administrative workers group reached (25.60 ± 6.10), (24.83 ± 3.25) and (22.47 ± 3.12) compared with the control group. (22.47 ± 2.49).
While the rates of increase in the concentration of uric acid reached (3.19, 9.21, 15.24%) in the serum of workers working for less than 10 years compared with the rates of increase in workers employed for more than 10 years (12.05, 20.5, 26.6%)) according to the all sites Study.
