Abstract

The protective effect of ethyl acetate and methanolic fractions of chloroform and methanolic extracts of Delonix regia leaves was investigated by examining the chromosomal aberration induced by carbon tetrachloride in mice. The bone marrow cells in metaphase were taken from the femur and fixed and stained. The cells were studied for fragments, breaks, rings and severe damaged chromosomes. Pre treatment with the plant isolates at dose of 600 mg/kg was able to significantly reduce the score of aberrant chromosomes with fraction C reducing the total aberrations to less than 27 %. The extract could be utilized for adjuvant therapy in case of several chemotherapy conditions.
