Abstract

An experimental work is carried out to examine and analyze the influence of Multi Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) in cottonseed oil biodiesel blends. The performance, and emission characteristics were examined in single cylinder, 4-stroke DI diesel engine for constant speed at various load conditions. A methyl ester of cottonseed oil had prepared and mixture with diesel by three compositions varying from 10%, 20% and 30% with the constant additive of Multi walled carbon nanotubes as 30 ppm in each blends and was mixed in to the biodiesel-diesel blends with the aid of ultrasonicator. The experimental work was carried out with inclusion of additive and without additive. From that, it shows significant raise in brake thermal efficiency and it was observed around 2 to 3 % under load conditions ranges from 6 to 12 kg for biodiesel nano additive blends. Brake specific fuel consumption of biodiesel was equal to that of pure diesel. The emission characteristics were remarkably reduced due to addition of nano additives, which induce to speed up the combustion rate and thus decrease in ignition delay.
