High Thrombus Burden among Acute ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Intervention
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The degree of severity of coronary artery disease and thrombus burden is associated with poor prognosis in patients presented with acute STEMI. It is important to make risk stratification for these patients on admission and guides the health care team on the most appropriate therapies on the basis of this risk.Coronary artery disease (CAD) is still considered the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the present world. Risk factor assessment, prevention and treatment of CAD are an important aspect of present-day research.Intracoronary thrombus formation due to atherosclerotic plaque rupture and the interruption of coronary blood flow constitute the main pathophysiology underlying acute coronary syndrome. The quantity of the intracoronary thrombus burden is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with Acute coronary syndrome.
